AOL Research has been shut down

The AOL Research group has been shut down.

In the wake of the privacy firestorm over their attempt to provide log data to researchers, it appears AOL has decided to eliminate their research group and stop working with the academic research community.

I am saddened by this news. It is very disappointing.

They fired Abdur Chowdhury(homepage, dblp) after the privacy fiasco. He was the crux of their research initiative, and pretty much the only person there. Which means they really have no option : considering it's an empty organization with a disreputed name, shutting it down makes sense overall.
